John and Elizabeth Prestrige are listed as members of Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Franklin Co. GA in the time frame 1796-1804 (Townsend's SOUTH CAROLINA BAPTISTS 1670-1805). This church became Chauga Baptist Church of Oconee Co. SC in 1811 (because by then more members lived on the other side of the Tugaloo River?).

John Prestridge signed "The Oath of Allegiance - 1777" on the 27th September. "I do swear that I renounce and refuse all allegiance to George III, King of Great Britain, his heirs and successors, and that I will be faithful and bear the true allegiance to the Commonwealth of virginia, as a free and independent state, and that I will not at any time do or cause to be done any injurious to the freedom and independence thereof; as declared by Congress; and that I will discover and make known to the some one justice of the peace for the said state all treasons or traitorous conspiracies which I now and hereafter shall know to be formed against this or any of the United States of America."

Prior to moving from Wilkes Co., to Oglethrope Co., GA, John and Elizabeth Watlers Prestidge executed the following deed of gift to their children:

"Know all men by these presetns that I JOHN PRESTIDGE of Wilkes County in the State of Georgia, Parental care and natural affection we these unto inducing have this day freely granted and bestowed to my beloved children hereafter named the following articles being of my own proper good and Chattles viz: to Larkin Prestidge, my Eldest son, I give a gray mare and one Yearling Colt and one Spring Colt the increase of the mare, branded on the near shoulder and Buttock "L" and one dunn Cow and Calf makred with a Cross and two slits in each ear.

To Samuel Prestidge, my second son, I give a black mare five years old Branded on the near shoulder and Buttock with a samll "L" a Cow called Hart and her Calf and one Rifle gun,

To John, my third son, I give a set of Black Smith Tools, one Waggon and Gears, one yearling Mare Colt and four three grass Steers Marked with a cross and two slits in each ear.

To Lette Prestidge, my oldest daughter, I give a cow called Damsel and her yearling and three Peweter plates and a dish,

To Nancy Prestidge, my second daughter, I give a Cow called Pidey and her calf and three pewter plates and a dish,

To Hannah Prestidge, my third daughter, I give a Cow called Sady and her calf, one Bed of furniture and five Pewter Basins.

To Lucy Prestidge, my fourth daughter, I give a sorrel horse seven years old branded on the shoulder and Buttock "L' and Cow called Slim and yearling and bed and furniture and three pewter places

And to these articles and such above mention I do forever quit, relinquiesh, give up all right, Title, Claim or demand giving granting and bestowing them as above and their increase of the said Chattels to my above named children and their heirs and adminstrators. In testimony we hereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this fourth day of May and in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety one and fifteeeth year of the Sovereignty and Independence of the United States of America." "Prestridge (or Prestage) John Prestage was taxed 1785 in part of Wilkes County that became Elbert county. He and his wife Elizabeth sold to Adam Simmons, land on Beaverdam Creek on Broad River granted to John in 1783.

1794 Listed as members of Hepzibah Baptist church at Beaverdam Creek, Pendleton Distric (Oconne County) South carolina, near the village of Townvill. Hepzibah Baptist church was constituted from members of Shoel Creek Baptist chburch, and many members lived across the Tugaloo River, in Pendleton District, SC. John and Elizabeth Prestige are include in the listing of members of Shoel Creek Baptist church, Franklin Co., GA 1796-1804.

In June 1797, John and Elizabeth dismissed "for constitution." The group met Nov. 1799, shoal Creek for convenience. met at Beaver Dam meeting house. Townsend Soutn Carolina baptist, 1670-1805.\\

After June 1797, when they are dismissed from the church "for constitution." no listing was found that included both John and Elizabeth Prestidge. The East Fork church record, dated August 18, 1810, seems to indicate taht John Prestige and Elizbath did not move to Amite county, MS. Those mentioned in the East Fork Baptist church record are probably their son John Prestidge and his wife Ally/AAlsy, Hannah Denman, their daughter.

Prestridge land on Hudson River is mentioned until 1823, suggesting that one of the Prestridges remained in Georgia. This along with the above 1810 and 1813 Tax records indicates taht John and Elizabeth stayed in Georgia and seems to answer the question that has puzzled researchers for years about whether or not they emigrated to Mississippi about 1810 with their children.

In the Pittsyvania co., VA; Court Records Book 4, 1777-1783 page 38, "October Court 1777" when Ann Prestage sued her husband John Prestage "denying her the Necessities of Life". She was gien a "separate maintenance allowance of 10 Pound Current Money levy'd yearly of the Goods and chattels of the said John Prestage."

The Last Will and Testament of John Prestridge In the name of God, Amen. I John Prestge being of {....} week in body, but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind the certainty of death, do make {.....} and ordain, this to be my last will and testiment, and first I bequeath my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust. Secondly it is my will and desire, that all my just debts be paid and satisfied then I give and bequeth unto my son John Prestage all my Smiths tools, which he has in {prospering?} and one shilling the {....} and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequest unto my grandson Larkin Prestage, all that certain tract of land, where I now live on and to his heirs forever. Item I give and bequest to my two grand daughters Letty and Nancy Prestage, all my sheets and household furniture, excepting my white mare, cow and calf and bed that Sarah D. P. lies on, which the white mare, cow and calf and bed I give and bequeath unto the said Sarah D.P. and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter Nancy Prestage before mentioned all my wifes wearing appearel to her heirs forever and I herby therese presents appointing constitute, John Wilson and David Terry, Executors of this my last will and testiment, given under my hand an seal, this thrity day of March one thousdand seven hundred and ninety one.

NOTE: Moses Walters and his wife Elizabeth of Franklin Co., Georgia sold land on April 30, 1798 in two different land deeds to two of his brothers. The first was to a Peter Walters for $50 for 30 acres on the
waters of Little Shoal Creek next to Robert Walters old line. The second was to Robert Walters for $200 for 43 acres and was part of the land where Moses was currently living and next to Peter Walters.
On October 27, 1805, Nancy Newberry a widow of Franklin Co., Georgia sold for $1 to Moses Walters 202 1/2 acres in Baldwin County, Georgia.  Moses and Elizabeth Walters sold 77 3/4 acres of land to Joseph Walters on April 21, 1808.  Part of the deed is missing and the amount is not given. This land was in Franklin County, Georgia on the "Little Shoal Creek" next to William Cawthon. It also was part of the land on which Moses Walters was currently living. Then on November 5, 1808, they also sold 200 acres of land to Robert Walters Sr. and Joseph Walters (Moses' brother and his son, same person who six months earlier bought land in that area) for $100. They bought the whole tract where Moses was
currently living, beginning at the wagon ford of "Big Shoal Creek" and running the dividing ridge between the waters of the "Big Shoal Creek and the Tugalo River." This was agreeable to the will of Moses' father,
Robert Walters deceased. This land was next to William Cawthon's line and a line made by Robert and Moses Walters, down to the Mouth of Shoal Creek.

On May 28, 1816, Moses Walters bought two Lots from the trustee of the Univeristy of Georgia. The first was Lot #33 consisting of 100 acres in a 5,000 acre resurvey on Shoal Creek for $231. This land was under lease until December 25, 1817 and said Moses Walters was not to have possession until then. The second was Lot #14 for 55 3/4 acres bought for securing a $15 Bond. This was the same day that William Cawthon bought land for $570, Lot #2 of 100 acres in this resurvey. Moses' brothers, Peter
Walters bought that same day for $226, Lot #41; and John C. Walters bought Lot #32 [next to Moses Walters] for $300.21.
