William WALTERS [Parents] was born 15 Jun 1699 in Liberton, Midlothian, Scotland. He died 16 Feb 1763 in Halafax Co., VA. William married Elizabeth on 22 Jun 1722 in Newton Village, Scotland.

Martha,
I have a church record of a William Watters (Walters) that married a Elizabeth Robertson in Newton Village, Scotland. On June 22, 1722 their Banns were announced in the Liberton Church on the 15 June 1722. I have a copy of this record as well. They lived near Leith, Scotland, and had six sons according to the church records. They were:
John Watters b. 22 May 1723
Archibald Watters b. 14 March 1725
William Watters b. 18 March 1727
James Watters b. 7 April 1729
John/Robert Watters b.30 Sept 1731
Thomas Watters b. 14 April 1733
Also I visited the grave of Elizabeth Robertson last June and it confirmed these records. William Walters

Yes, The grave is in a small village, now a suburb of Greater Edinburgh. It is in Restalrig, Scotland next to the tomb of St. Triduana. I have a photo of the Tombstone, if you are interseted?
My William/Elizabeth were married in the Newton Parish Church, 22 June 1722. This is a couple miles from Restalrig and Abbeyhill where William had a blacksmith shop with his brothers. WJ Walters

Elizabeth [Parents] was born 16 Jun 1697 in Liberton, Midlothian, Scotland. She died 1760. Elizabeth married William WALTERS on 22 Jun 1722 in Newton Village, Scotland.

Elizabeth was baptized 29 Aug 1697 in Liberton, Midlothian, Scotland.

Both. My ancestor, William Watters, (b 1699, Liberton, Midlothian, Scotland; d 1763, Virginia) brought his family to Brunswick County, Virginia, from Scotland in 1735-1737. Brunswick County was eventually divided and parts eventually became Lunenburg, then Halifax, then Pittsylvania Counties. Much of William's family can be found in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, records during the 1700s and early 1800s. The family name was listed as Walters, then.

William Watters was married first to Elizabeth Robertson in Scotland, but she died in Scotland in 1735. She was buried in Newton Parish Church Cemetery, and her gravestone still stands there.

Elizabeth Robertson's father was John Robertson, b 1664, Liberton, Midlothian, Scotland. Sometimes his name was listed as John Robertson-Rotson (perhaps the Rotson is another derivative (sp?) of Robertson, Robinson, Roberson.) Elizabeth's mother was Marion Ewart, b 1668, Liberton, Midlothian, Scotland.

I am a Walters and found out, only after starting a family search a few years ago, that the Walters, Watters, Waters names were interchanged down through the years, and my own family used the name Waters until 1890. Some families still use that and the Watters name.

I am named after my great great grandmother, Carolyne Prestridge, who is buried in Branch, Louisiana..My grandmother, Cora O"Pry (Daigle), married to Etienne Daigle, and the mother of nine children, was the daughter of Andrew Jackson O'Pry and Marie Joselie (possible Joselia) Latiolais..Andrew Jackson O'Pry was the son of Joseph O'Pry and Carolyne Prestridge (my namesake)...I was really questioning the spelling of some of the names, especially mine...whoever had the headstone made for Carolyne Prestridge, many many years later, had the inscription "Carolyn Prestridge"..I have always been curious about that, because as a young girl, I would go with my Mama (Cecelia and my grandmother, Cora) to maintain the grave of Carolyne Prestridge ,as this was the custom of Catholics before All Saints Day..now, keep in mind that there was no headstone at the time and for many many years. there was none....My Mom (Cecelia Daigle Dunbar..daughter of Cora O'Pry and Etienne Daigle) and I would go to "white-wash" her tomb..and then, probably in the 80's when my Mom and I drove over to Branch to find her grave, (by this time Cora had been deceased) there was a headstone and the name had "Carolyn Prestridge" We couldn't understand and thought the spelling was wrong..Carolyn rather than Carolyne (which I like much better)...Carolyne Prestridge was very close to Cora (her grand-daughter) and  Cora loved her paternal grandmother ..My  Mom  (Cecelia Daigle Dumbar) always promised her mother (Cora) when she was expecting me, that if I was a girl, she would name me after her Mother's grandmother...so, I was named Carolyne Prestridge Dunbar...guess this can get quite confusing, but you probable know how to decipher all of it...Thanks for contacting me..Please keep in touch...Carolyne Prestridge Dunbar DeJean
