William Turner MASON [Parents] [scrapbook] 1, 2 was born 3, 4 1 Nov 1822 in Jefferson Co., GA. He died 5 13 Sep 1895 in Valley Mills, Bosque Co.., TX and was buried in OLD Valley Mills Cemetery. William married Virginia Ann America SPARKS on 19 May 1872 in McLennan County, Texas.
There is a discrepancy in the date of death of William Turner Mason. His headstone says that he died 13 Sept. 1895, his wife's Civil War Pension App. states that he died August 10, 1894.
I also feel that the CSA Service Record below may be incorrect as Virginia's Civil War Pension App states that her husband William Turner Mason enlisted at Waco, TX - He served as a private in Co. K, 15th Regiment, Texas Infantry from Mar. 1, 1862 to Nov. 14, 1862.
His pension App. also states that he was born in Jefferson Co. GA.
Since William Turner Mason's family was living in Laurens Co. GA in 1860 I don't think that it is likely that William Turner Mason went into the Civil War in Alabama.
William Turner Mason - CSA Service No. 50092On June 2, 1862 William Turner Mason enlisted at Hall's Mill (Mobile County) Alabama to serve as a Confederate soldier in the war between the states. He was assigned as a private to Company A of the Alabama 56th Cavalry Regiment, later known as the Broyles' Alabama Partisan Rangers.
He was in the battle at Biloxi and Okalona, Mississippi and at Forsythe, Georgia. His July 24, 1864 inspection report lists him as being "Lt. wounded, on furlough."
He was paroled as a 2nd Lieutenant at the end of the war, April 9, 1865 at Forsythe, Georgia.From Joe Lochridge

I have very little on the Masons. V. A. Mason had three children, Elma (circa 1880), Tommy and Lester.
Tommy had a son named Willet,. Elma married my grandfather, Joseph Goodwin Lochridge on January 11, 1899. They had 3 children, Rosa Lee (11/23/1900), Cooper Malcolm (6/12/06) and
Tommy. Cooper is my father.
I live in Houston. I grew up in Waco and we frequently drove up to Dallas to see my mother's parents, so we passed through Ellis county frequently.

Kansas census shows Edwin F. with Virginia so I don't believe that this is OUR Virginia A. Sparks.

Dear Elma - Your letter of 24th was an agreeable surprise. We had not heard from any of you in so long, I am indeed glad to know that you are all well. I would like much to visit my old Bud and see you all, but I am hard pushed and fear that I will never be able to get out there. My three own sisters, Mrs. Sue Pullen, Mrs J.D. Pullen and Lrs Augusta McNiel, are all here and well. They all with their families join me in love to you all. Mrs. McNeil is a widow, you know. She has three children all about grown. Claudia the eldest is married. She married Mr. J.I. Jones of Lawrence County about two months ago, a most excellent young man. Mrs. Sue Pullen has 5 children the eldest a daughter named Effie has been married to Dr. Miller for some years at Abbeville Wilcox Co. her other children are boys - all of them are at present attending at the South GA College of this place. Mrs. J.D. Pullen has two children boy and girl named Mason and Pearl. I have four children living Wm Laro, Lola Wynne, Gerry Turner and Edgar. I inclose a picture of Willie my eldest son at seventeen years old also a picture of myself. I have no extra picture of the others. I would like very much to have pictures of you all.

Mrs. J.E. Wallace, aged 37, wife of J.E. Wallce, 225 North Fourth street, died at the residence at 12:30 yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. Wallace was a native of McLennan county, being born near China Springs. She is survived by her husband, mother, Mrs. V.A. Mason of Sanger, three brothers, Claude and Lester Mason of Chillicothe and T.J. Mason of Valley Mills, and five children, Rose, Lee, Thomas, Cooper and a baby one week old.
The funeral services were held this afternoon at the residence at 2:30. Interment was in First Street cemetery.
The pallbearers were - Active, J.M. Pittillo, James Hays Quarles, J.A. Stanford, R.A. Burleson, C.E. Williams and E.M. Ainsworth. Honorary, A.R. McCollum, Fred B. Robinson, George W. Jones, Ed. Costley, Dr. J.H. Boyett and John Watson.
