1. Martin Roberson's biographies indicate that his mother was Rebecca Kennedy.
2. The 1850 Giles Co., TN census shows Sharp and Rebecca only 11 family numbers away from William and Nancy Kennedy (who had a son William).
3. The 1860 Young Co., TX census shows Sharp and Rebecca lived next door to William and Nancy Kennedy (who had a son William).
4. A granddaughter of Rebecca wrote that Rebecca's mother was a Young and that 'Uncle Billy Kennedy' (presumably Rebecca's brother) lived in Graham, TX. 'Uncle Billy' had a son Willie who was associated with a bank in Olney or Graham. From Jerry Roberson roberson@ocsnet.net
Henry Robertson/Roberson was b. Nov 5, 1818 in Giles Co.
Military pension records from his service as a TN Vol in May 1838. He enrolled at Ft Cass and mustered into service at Calhoun TN and was discharged at Ross Landing.
His widow testified that the first entries in his family Bible were written as Robertson (and that is how is military records are shown) but he came to believe Roberson was the correct family spelling.
We know he lived for a while in Stewart Co Tn, but that by 1847 he is in Union co AR.
other notes from a previous posting from Jerry
In 1847, Henry Roberson married Elizabeth Ann Manerva Jones at her father's place in Union County, AR. The record of this union is on file at the El Dorado court house.
They lived in the community of Three Creeks, and later on Cornie, near another family of Robersons who also came to Union Co AR from TN.
New information (mil pens file) shows he was born 11/5/1818 in Giles County TN. He enlisted as a volunteer in 1838 and lived for a while in Stewart Co TN after discharge from service. His military service entitled him to a land warrant.
Prior to finding this documentation, verbal history had him as being from AL. His children also listed him as being from AL on the later census records. As close as Giles Co is to the border of AL, it is possible that he was in or near AL at some time before moving to Union AR.
A family Bible page included with the military pension records gives the full names of their children and all dates of birth. The first few entries are spelled Robertson. His widow later testified that he came to believe the correct spelling was without the "t" and all entries after that were Roberson. Official records we have found have been without the T except for mil records.
Henry died in July 1858, just one month before his youngest daughter was born. She was named Henri Ellen, but was often referred to simply as Ellen.
Alsey ( Maybe Alice?) died after 1830. She married William ROBERSON/ROBERTSON.
