THE PARKER FAMILY
Thomas Parker, born ca 1720, and his wife Eleanor are found in the earliest Mecklenburg County, NC records dating from the 1760s. Numerous court records link the family, possibly by blood, definitely as neighbors to the Alexander, Lewis, Wallace, Allen, McLean, and McClure families of Mecklenburg County. In January 1767 Thomas Parker and John Frohock witnessed a mortgage from John Allen to Henry McCulloh, concerning land on Sugaw Creek, adjacent Hezekiah Alexander, near Abraham Alexander’s Mill Dam. A Mecklenburg County deed dated May 9, 1765 records the transfer of land from John Campbell of Bertie County to Alexander Wallace for acreage on Mallard
Creek, adjacent the line of land “where Thomas Parker lives.” In June of 1766, Jacob Gardner conveyed 500 acres to Thomas Parker on Big Creek, south side of the Broad River, above the mouth of the Pacolate River. This transaction was witnessed by Daniel Davies, Benjamin Lewis, and Alexander Lewis. Alexander Lewis, along with James Clark and Jemima Alexander Sharpe, wife of James Sharpe, witnessed Thomas Parker’s will of July 4, 1767, which was proved September 1771. In his will, Thomas Parker bequeathed property
to his wife Eleanor and three children: Isaiah, Isaac, and Hannah.
The eldest son, Isaiah Parker, born ca 1745, remained in the Mallard Creek and Long Creek area, District 6, Mecklenburg County. His younger brother, Isaac A. Parker, removed to Union County (now Cherokee County) SC where he died in 1825, aged 77. Children of Isaac and his first wife Elizabeth Kerr (daughter of Joseph Kerr and Elizabeth McKane) were: Rachel (married William Bland);Isaiah; Isaac; Hannah (married Joseph Guyton); Thomas Lewis; Vilet; Elizabeth (wife of Archibald Crockett); Silas Reese. Children of Isaac and his second wife Susannah Gibson were Naomi and Elijah Eleazer.
On January 20, 1767 Isaiah Parker purchased 300 acres on Long Creek and Mallard Creek, adjacent the land of John McKnitt Alexander, who with his wife Jane, witnessed Isaiah Parker’s 1771 purchase of land in Tryon County on Allison’s Creek, west side of the Broad River. Isaiah and his wife Catherine continued to reside on their Long Creek property, although selling 16 acres in 1773 to William McClure. Isaiah and Catherine had nine children: a daughter who married John Jenkins and removed to Claiborne County, Tennessee; Thomas (married Sally Mullens 1803); John (married Lilly
Mullen 1801); Isaac ; Isaiah Jr born ca 1785 (married Rachel Moore ca 1809 Burke Co, NC) died Coffee County, TN [see Isaiah Parker, Jr. history]; Dorcas (married Samuel Franklin 1800); Elizabeth (married Clem Mullens 1807); Eleanor (married William Jenkins 1809); and Sarah born ca 1790.
After Catherine’s death, Isaiah married Agness (no known children). Isaiah died in 1805 with Matthew Wallace and John McLean appointed administrators. Thomas, Isaiah, Jr., and their sisters Dorcas, wife of Samuel Franklin, and Eleanor, wife of William Jenkins, removed to Burke County ca 1809, with Thomas and Isaiah Jr. later settling in middle Tennessee counties of Warren, Rutherford, Cannon, and Coffee Counties.written & copyrighted 2002 by:
