Trice Funeral Set Saturday

Funeral Services for Dr. William G. Trice, 73 year old Waco physician, who died of a heart attack Thursday, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch Chapel.
Dr Trice was stricken as he left his automobile at his home, 414 North Twenty-third Street about 6:30 p.m.
Rev. Dr. A Norman Evans will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
A native of Waco, Dr. Trice had been practicing here since 1926. He received his degree from Vanderbilt University in 1900 and was a classmate of the late Dr. H. F. Connally, also of Waco.
Heard Car in Drive
Mrs. Trice said she heard him drive his car into the garage. When he didn't come in the house for some little time, she went to the garage and found him. She summoned a physician but Dr. Trice died before his arrival.
Dr. Trice began his medical practice in Elk, as a country doctor. Mrs. Trice said many of the operations he performed in those days were in their own home, some on the kitchen table.
It was while serving this small community that Dr. Trice realized the need of more study. This realization accounted for the cast amount of post graduate work which he later did in medical centers throughout the United States and Europe, particularly in Vienna.
He left Elk and came to Waco in 1928. His practice here was almost uninterrupted except for post-graduate work and the carrying out of his one hobby- big game hunting - until his death Thursday afternoon.
Big Game Hunter
The large scale game hunts began for Dr. Trice in 1929 when he and a party went to Alaska. Later hunts in 1931 and 1936 carried him back to Alaska, also to Africa and Asia.
Hunting companion to Dr. Trice on one trip to Africa was Tris Speaker, immortal centerfielder for the Cleveland Indian baseball club and a native of Hubbard.
His Many Trophies
Hundreds of trophies marked Dr. Trice's hunts. He had them in his home and at his office, some on display and others packed away. In 1937, Padgitt's Sporting Goods displayed his entire collection.
One trophy, well known to many of his patients was the waste basket he had in his office. It was made from the skin of an elephant's leg from the knee down with the foot serving as a base.
Dr. Trice was the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Sion Trice of Waco. Dr. Trice's widow was formerly Miss Lottie Parmer.
The family requests that no flowers be sent, a request Dr. Trice made known before his death.
He is survived by his widow.

Lottie PARMER [Parents] was born 21 Mar 1898 in Waco, McClennan Co, TX. She died 22 Aug 1968 in Waco, McClennan Co, TX. Lottie married Dr. William G. TRICE.

Mrs. Trice, active for many years in Waco clubs and organizations, died Thursday afternoon in a Waco hospital.
She was the widow of Dr. William G. Trice who died in 1951. He was physician and surgeon to many Wacoans for more than 50 years. The Trices were married in 1927.
Mrs. Trice taught school for several years at Speegleville and Hallsburg.
She had been a member of the Austin Avenue United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and had been a Sunday school teacher there.
She was long active in hospital activities and for the past 10 years had given a scholarship to the Harris Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Worth. She was a charter member of the Hillcrest Hospital Auxiliary and a life member of the Providence Hospital Auxiliary here.
Mrs. Trice was a Waco native. She was the former Miss Lottie Parmer, daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Clint L. Parmer. She was a graduate of Waco High School.
Mrs. Trice was a life member of the Waco Garden Club, Friends of the Waco-McLennan County Library and the Waco Historical Foundation. She was an associate member of the Euterpean Music Club and a life member of the National Federation of Music Clubs. She was a member of the Waco McLennan County Medical Wives Club.
