William Daniel WILLIAMS [Parents] [scrapbook] "W.D. Or Big Daddy" 1 was born 11 Aug 1867 in TN. He died 16 Jun 1949 in Dallas County, Dallas, TX and was buried in Restland Memorial Park. W.D. Or Big Daddy married Mary Agnes COLLINS in Dallas Or Waxahachie, TX.
Other marriages:UNKNOWN,
W.D. was a Dallas police officer from June 1, 1905 to Aug. 1, 1939. He became a police sergeant. The family called him "Big Daddy" because of his size. I have a picture of him on his police horse which is how he patrolled the Dallas area before the automobile.
Apparently after leaving AL, The Williams brothers along with the Collins and Terry families came to TX. Rufus and Babe settled in Alvord, Wise Co., TX before moving on to Wichita Falls and Bowie, TX respectively and William Daniel settled in Dallas. It says in his obit that he went to Waxahachie first.

Retired Police Officer Dies at his Home
William Daniel Williams, 82, retired Dallas police sergeant, died Thursday at his home at 2818 Florence after an illness of more than a year.
A native of Tennessee, Williams moved to Waxahachie in 1899, and two years later, moved to Dallas.
In 1905, Williams joined the Dallas police Dept. as a mounted policeman. At that time, the city hall was where the Hotel Adolphus now stands. After he was retired early in 1938, Williams worked part time as a traffic policeman at Crozier Technical High School until 1940.
Williams, a good-natured, fun loving man, collected birds as a hobby. At one time he had more that 250 birds. He had several ravens and blackbirds that he trained to talk, his family said.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams' forty-seventh wedding anniversary was last Tuesday. The day was not observed happily because Williams was critically ill.
Williams was a former member of the Woodmen of the World.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Fred H. Williams and Volney C. Williams, both of Dallas, a brother Babe Williams of Bowie, and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Weiland-Merritt Funeral Church, 2909 Live Oak. The Rev. John Bannister will officiate, assisted by the Rev. A.O. Colley. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park.Subject: Collins family

Julie, thanks for the letter copy to Dustin. I have visited the monument in Lewisburg TN on the courthouse square. Henry Collins was my grandfather He was killed somewhere in the North, and the burial site is unknown. Both of my Collins grandfathers served in the Civil War
In the picture you sent, Agnes, first on the left, is my aunt, married to Wllie Williams who served on the Dallas Police Department for many years.
Uncle Willie was a bird fancier, with many cages of birds in the backyard on Florence Street. (long gone residence to progress) He also had a mean parrot which I would tease with my finger stuck thru the cage. I recall one time that uncle Wiilie took me on his patrol in a police car. It was night and he would stop and introduce me to some shaddy looking characters. I must have been about 11 years old. He bought cokes by the case in that small bottle, and when he came in from work was the only time you were privileged to enjoy a coke, and only if he offered it to you. He and Agnes had no children, and she was totally dedicated to taking good care of uncle Willie. Grandma Collins lived with them, who was Agnes and my father,
James Edward Collins, mother.
Grandma came to see us annually and stayed a month each time. I looked forward to her visit, cause I carried her bag in and was tipped 50 cents.
At that time she received a $25.00 monthly pension, which was for her husband's service in the Confederate Army. It was amazing to me what she could do with that much money. Every year she would buy my father a new suit of clothing. I would go to the store and buy her a bottle of Garret snuff. She always told me to feel on the bottom of the jar, and to get the bottle that had the most dotes on it. While at my home, she would get a new set of tooth brushes to dip snuff with off of a special tree ( I don,t remember what kind) She was a lovely person, and she and my mother were the most important women in my life to this day.
The next two women in the picture, I do not know. The next man with the suit on is I believe, Uncle Willie's brother. He and his wife lived in Wichita Falls. My mother and father were very fond of them and we would visit them on weekends, when we lived in Young county, Texas. His wife always had cabbage cooking when we went there. Nearby was a large cemetery that I would walk to and look for the oldest grave markers.
The other man with the mustache, I don,t know.
Thanks for all your help

Mary Agnes COLLINS [Parents] [scrapbook] "Mama Agnes" 1 was born 4 Sep 1884 in TN. She died 19 Oct 1958 in Dallas County, Dallas, TX and was buried in Restland Memorial Park. Mama Agnes married William Daniel WILLIAMS in Dallas Or Waxahachie, TX.
Agnes was not Fred Sr.'s birth mother and to date I have not been able to find who was but she was family for many years. She was the only mother that the boys knew. But she was only 7 years older than Fred Sr. According to her death certificate and obituary, Fred's death certificate and obituary and Fred's social security application, Agnes is listed as his mother on each of those documents.
