I will try to explain the two Charles further to help you. My records do not show a Charles Ewell Collie.
We have Charles Collie. His son William marries Sarah "Patsy" Carter the daughter of Charles Ewell Carter, William Collie and Sarah Carter are husband and wife. Father of the husband is Charles Collie and father of the wife is Charles Ewell Carter. I can see how these two Charles could be mistaken for one another in a translation of a relatives story. I, like you, have seen messages naming the two as one.
Let me know if I can be of any more help.
