William Daniel WILLIAMS [Parents] [scrapbook] "W.D. Or Big Daddy" 1 was born 11 Aug 1867 in TN. He died 16 Jun 1949 in Dallas County, Dallas, TX and was buried in Restland Memorial Park. W.D. Or Big Daddy married UNKNOWN about 1887 in Limestone Co, AL?.
Other marriages:COLLINS, Mary Agnes
W.D. was a Dallas police officer from June 1, 1905 to Aug. 1, 1939. He became a police sergeant. The family called him "Big Daddy" because of his size. I have a picture of him on his police horse which is how he patrolled the Dallas area before the automobile.
Apparently after leaving AL, The Williams brothers along with the Collins and Terry families came to TX. Rufus and Babe settled in Alvord, Wise Co., TX before moving on to Wichita Falls and Bowie, TX respectively and William Daniel settled in Dallas. It says in his obit that he went to Waxahachie first.

(found a Cornelia Smith, daughter of Absolum Smith born abt 1856= William was b. 1867 so this is probably not his wife - she would have been 31 and he would have been 20 but stranger things have happened!)

Retired Police Officer Dies at his Home
William Daniel Williams, 82, retired Dallas police sergeant, died Thursday at his home at 2818 Florence after an illness of more than a year.
A native of Tennessee, Williams moved to Waxahachie in 1899, and two years later, moved to Dallas.
In 1905, Williams joined the Dallas police Dept. as a mounted policeman. At that time, the city hall was where the Hotel Adolphus now stands. After he was retired early in 1938, Williams worked part time as a traffic policeman at Crozier Technical High School until 1940.
Williams, a good-natured, fun loving man, collected birds as a hobby. At one time he had more that 250 birds. He had several ravens and blackbirds that he trained to talk, his family said.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams' forty-seventh wedding anniversary was last Tuesday. The day was not observed happily because Williams was critically ill.
Williams was a former member of the Woodmen of the World.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Fred H. Williams and Volney C. Williams, both of Dallas, a brother Babe Williams of Bowie, and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Weiland-Merritt Funeral Church, 2909 Live Oak. The Rev. John Bannister will officiate, assisted by the Rev. A.O. Colley. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park.Subject: Collins family

Julie, thanks for the letter copy to Dustin. I have visited the monument in Lewisburg TN on the courthouse square. Henry Collins was my grandfather He was killed somewhere in the North, and the burial site is unknown. Both of my Collins grandfathers served in the Civil War
In the picture you sent, Agnes, first on the left, is my aunt, married to Wllie Williams who served on the Dallas Police Department for many years.
Uncle Willie was a bird fancier, with many cages of birds in the backyard on Florence Street. (long gone residence to progress) He also had a mean parrot which I would tease with my finger stuck thru the cage. I recall one time that uncle Wiilie took me on his patrol in a police car. It was night and he would stop and introduce me to some shaddy looking characters. I must have been about 11 years old. He bought cokes by the case in that small bottle, and when he came in from work was the only time you were privileged to enjoy a coke, and only if he offered it to you. He and Agnes had no children, and she was totally dedicated to taking good care of uncle Willie. Grandma Collins lived with them, who was Agnes and my father,
James Edward Collins, mother.
Grandma came to see us annually and stayed a month each time. I looked forward to her visit, cause I carried her bag in and was tipped 50 cents.
At that time she received a $25.00 monthly pension, which was for her husband's service in the Confederate Army. It was amazing to me what she could do with that much money. Every year she would buy my father a new suit of clothing. I would go to the store and buy her a bottle of Garret snuff. She always told me to feel on the bottom of the jar, and to get the bottle that had the most dotes on it. While at my home, she would get a new set of tooth brushes to dip snuff with off of a special tree ( I don,t remember what kind) She was a lovely person, and she and my mother were the most important women in my life to this day.
The next two women in the picture, I do not know. The next man with the suit on is I believe, Uncle Willie's brother. He and his wife lived in Wichita Falls. My mother and father were very fond of them and we would visit them on weekends, when we lived in Young county, Texas. His wife always had cabbage cooking when we went there. Nearby was a large cemetery that I would walk to and look for the oldest grave markers.
The other man with the mustache, I don,t know.
Thanks for all your help

From: Dulaney Family Record prepared by A.D. DuLaney in April, 1936
My father, Rev. Thomas DuLaney (and he spelled the name Dulaney) was born in Fayetter County, Alabama, May 22, 1831 and died Thanksgiving Day 1917. My father came to Sevier County, Arkansas, in January 1872, from Mississippi and in the fall of that year purchased land near Ben Lomand, Arkansas, where he lived until his death. He was an ordained minister in the Missionary Baptist Church in 1858 and was active in the ministry until a few years before his death. He was a Confederate soldier and by reason if illness was furoughed or discharged, I do not remember which, before the close of the war. This furlough or discharge is in the hands of John DuLaney of Ashdown, Arkansas. Several of his brothers, my uncles, were also Confederate soldiers.
The following is the information, as near as I have it, of my father's brothers and sisters, there being ten children - seven bous and three girls. Henry DuLaney, born in 1829 and died about 1880, and married Jane Priddy, his second wife was Lucy Chilcote, his third wife was named Guess and his fourth wife was a Johnson.
Sibbey DuLaney was born in 1836 and her first husband was a Wileman and her second husband was Nicholas McDonald.
William DuLaney was born in 1838, and married Lucy Husk.
Caroline DuLaney was born in 1840 and married Sam Tucker.
Gilbert DuLaney was born in 1843 and married a Graham.
Alfred DuLaney (called Babe DuLaney) was born in 1846 and married a Chilcote.
Joe DuLaney was born in 1849 and married a Johnson.
Mary DuLaney was norn in 1855 and married George West.
Most of these births and marriages occurred in Itawamba County, Mississippi but so far as I am advised none of my uncles and aunts are living at this time and I haven't the information from which I can get a record of their children. My father, Rev. Thomas DuLaney, was married three times. His first wife being Eliza M. Horn and they were married September 1, 1853 in said Itawamba County, Mississippi. By that union the following children were born,; - A.E. (Alfred) DuLaney was born January 6, 1856 and is still living. Henry DuLaney was born February 27, 1858 and died in Fannin County, Texas a few years ago. William DuLaney was born August 3, 1854 and died in Phillips County, Arkansas in September 1907. Thomas B. DuLaney was born February 6, 1862 and has never married and at this time resides at Ben Lomond, Arkansas. Minerva DuLaney was born December 21, 1864 and at this time resides at Ben Lomaon, Arkansas. Jane DuLaney was born March 12, 1860 and died in Sevier Coutny, Arkansas, December 27, 1895 and is buried in the graveyard somewhere near Wrights Chapel in Sevier County, Arkansas.
My father's second wife was Mrs. Sarah L. Benson whos maiden name was Chaffin and they were married Oct. 6, 1867 in Mississippi and to that union there were three children, to wit: Lena DuLaney, born July 19, 1868 who is still living as Lena Shilling in Mart, Texas; Joseph Florida DuLaney was norn Nov. 13, 1870 and is living in Mart, Texas; and Jasper DuLaney who was born Jan. 8, 1875 and died when very young. All of the above named children of course were born in Miss. except Jasper. My fathers second wife died after he came to Sevier Co., AR and is buried at the Brownstown graveyard.
My father's third wife, my mother, was Elizabeth Amanda Casey who was born in Floyd County, Georgia in 1844 and married my father in Sevier Co. AR Sept. 12, 1876 and died Dec. 24, 1907 and is buried at the Ben Lomond graveyard. Of this marriage there were five children: Arlander Denson DuLaney (the writer) was born Aug. 26, 1877 and resides at 1700 N. Palm Street, Little Rock, AR. Emma Celeste DuLaney was born June 16, 1879 and died Oct. 4, 1909 in Itawamba Co., MS; Lucy DuLaney was born March 3, 1962 and died Dec. 3, 1913 and is buried at Ben Lomond. Lydia Dora DuLaney was born Dec. 15, 1887 and is living in Ashdown, AR. John Jefferson DuLaney was born Feb. 5, 1885 and is living in Ashdown, AR.
